Week 8
This week has been another memorable one in the language centres, with the heatwave fitting perfectly with our theme of the week – the weather! The sunshine provided plenty of opportunities for the children to use their new Welsh vocabulary and language patterns in real-life situations. Alongside their learning, there was time to cool off by dipping their feet in the water, enjoy some refreshing ice lollies, and make the most of the beautiful weather.
This week, the children also met more of the Aberwla characters – Gwen, Bob and Gari – and enjoyed the story The Hurricane, with Bob taking centre stage. Although there was a storm in the story, the sun continued to shine outside! Throughout the week, the children had lots of opportunities to practise and develop their language patterns through a variety of speaking activities and language games.
During the VR sessions in the primary/secondary transition centres, the children visited a virtual weather station. This provided a fun and interactive way to reinforce weather vocabulary and instructional language. Some of the primary language centres also carried out a fascinating experiment by creating a tornado in a jar, while others took on the role of weather presenters, confidently delivering weather forecasts in Welsh.
Making the most of the warm weather, some groups visited the local supermarket to buy ingredients for a healthy sandwich. This gave the children an excellent opportunity to use their Welsh in a real-life setting while shopping, discussing different foods and following instructions to prepare their own lunch.
It has been another week full of learning, laughter and growing confidence in using Welsh. We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and effort shown by all our learners and look forward to another exciting week of language learning.
