The Course
Aberwla
The course offers a unique and supportive opportunity for pupils who are new to Welsh, or who need additional support to develop their skills and confidence in the language. It provides a solid foundation in Welsh and helps learners to feel fully involved in the bilingual life of their school.
Pupils attend the centre for a period of 10 weeks. During this time, they spend four days a week at the centre. Every Friday they return to their school to maintain an ongoing connection with that school.
Pupils are carefully supported to learn through the medium of Welsh in a safe and welcoming environment that encourages enjoyment and development.
Through fun and carefully planned activities based on the imaginary town of Aberwla, learners will have the opportunity to meet characters and use the Welsh language naturally in a variety of experiences.
In a caring and fun environment, the course helps pupils to develop skills so that they can speak and understand Welsh on a day-to-day basis, learn and use simple dialogues in everyday situations, and develop reading skills through the enjoyment of stories. In the older years, attention is also paid to the development of writing skills.
