Week 9

This week has been just as busy as the previous weeks in the language centres, with plenty of laughter and learning filling each day. As the children immersed themselves in new stories, colourful characters and lively language activities, they continued to learn new language patterns and enjoyed every moment of the experience.

The children met two new Aberwla characters: Lara Lewis – a very competitive girl who loves racing everyone – and Barry Bale, a strong but silly boy who manages to lose every ball at the Leisure Centre… every single time!

One of the highlights of the week was reading the fun story “Aunty Nel’s Ostrich and Lara on the Run”. The children listened attentively and responded to the humorous events, practising their listening and speaking skills while using new language patterns. Everyone enjoyed predicting what would happen next before moving on to a variety of fun activities and games that reinforced the story and gave the children the opportunity to use their Welsh in a practical and creative way.

In addition to all the exciting activities, the children created colourful and eye-catching posters to advertise the Great Aberwla Race. With bright colours and original ideas, the posters looked fantastic and showed the children’s excellent imagination.

The children also had the opportunity to perform and script a news bulletin based on the Great Aberwla Race. They worked together to develop ideas, take on different roles and bring their presentations to life. There was lots of laughter throughout the activity, and the children used their Welsh confidently and naturally.

During the VR session in the primary/secondary transition centres, the children had the chance to visit the Leisure Centre, revisiting sports vocabulary and patterns for expressing opinions. This was a great opportunity to practise language in a practical context, use new vocabulary and build confidence when talking about sports and physical activities.

The children have enjoyed a week full of adventure, creativity and learning Welsh in a fun way. We are extremely proud of each and every one of them and look forward to continuing the fun in our final week next week.
