Week 8
This week has once again been busy and fun at the language centres. The children have enjoyed the variety of activities, and it’s wonderful to see them continuing to develop confidence and fluency in Welsh.
The children had the chance to meet new characters from Aberwla – Gwen, Bob, and Gari, and we followed Bob Bach’s adventures in the story ‘Y Corwynt’. They had regular opportunities to practise their language patterns through a variety of language games.
The children visited the Weather Station during the VR sessions in the primary and secondary transition centres, practising directive language and weather vocabulary in a fun and interactive way. In some primary centres, they carried out fun experiments, including creating a whirlwind in a jar, while others took on the role of weather presenters.
Special workshops were held in the three transition centres with the rapper Ed Holden. The children had the chance to be part of the LleCHI LleNI, Llechi Cymru project, raising awareness and interest in the history of the slate industry, and the World Heritage designation of North-West Wales. The children also learned about the quarrying industry in Gwynedd, exploring its history and importance to local communities, and developed creative skills through beatboxing and composing a unique class track.
This week was also full of new words and patterns, including:
- Third-person questions – Where did they go..? What did they see..? What did they do..? What did they get..? What did they hear..?
- New vocabulary from the story
- Weather forecasts
- Describing characters
- Measurement terminology
Opportunities for learning at home:
- Measuring objects around the house
- Discussing the weather
- Watching weather forecasts and asking questions about what they see or hear in Welsh

We are very proud of their commitment and enthusiasm, and we look forward to more language learning next week!
