Week 6
Week 6 has been a very busy one for the children! We have been learning about our local area and discovering interesting places in Aberwla.
Highlights of the Week
During the week, the children focused on buildings in the community – the school, the shop, the library, the park, and the supermarket. They looked at a colourful map of Aberwla and compared it with our own area. There were lots of interesting discussions about where places are, and plenty of practice giving and following directions.
Excitement grew when we introduced two new characters – Ceri and Cled, as well as Jeff the dog. The children learned new vocabulary while following the adventures of Huwi Twmff, the mischievous boy from Aberwla.
In our VR session, the children in the Year 5–9 transition centres met Cled and bought a camera in the tech shop. Cled used the camera to take photos of different locations in the virtual world of Aberwla while the children explored the places together.
In art, the children were inspired by a Welsh artist who showcases the beauty of their local community. They created colourful and personal pieces that reflected how they see their surroundings, while using the new landscape vocabulary they had learned during the week.
To finish the week, we explored the buildings and places we had been studying while walking around our local area. The children thoroughly enjoyed the trip.
The children are now using more Welsh confidently every day, and we are very proud of their efforts and enthusiasm.
Here’s a snapshot of our activities from the week.
