Week 4

The learners have been taking part in fun activities with continuous opportunities to build confidence in Welsh and develop their language skills across the curriculum.

Highlights of the Week

At the start of the week, the learners focused on daily verbs, taking part in practical activities and fun games to reinforce their understanding of these verbs.

This week, the children learned about garden animals through practical activities, interactive games, and singing with actions. Every activity provided opportunities for learning through experience, allowing the children to explore the language and use it in a lively and hands-on way.

In addition to garden animal games, a variety of oral activities were used, such as Charades and Simon Says…, to practice the verbs. The learners really enjoyed participating in these activities, and listening to the “Tracks of the Week” also helped them recognise and understand verbs in context.

This week also included a further visit to Tyddyn Swnllyd Farm in Aberwla, where the children met a new character, Wil Tomos. The learners took part in board games and interactive games, as well as completing writing tasks to describe the character’s features. The drama session at the end of the week was a highlight for many, giving the children the chance to practise and perform drama in a supportive and enjoyable environment. They also had the opportunity to learn the names of farm animals and wildlife.

Once again this week, the use of VR technology was a valuable experience for the learners. They were able to go on a virtual tour of the farm, using the week’s language patterns to describe what they saw around them.

During Maths lessons this week, the learners were introduced to a new challenge: learning to tell the time in Welsh.

The children had lots of fun practising through the game “What time is it, Mr Wolf?”, an activity using large circles and numbers on the floor like a clock, with children placing colourful blocks to mark the numbers. These activities combined visual learning, physical movement, and counting, making learning about time fun, interactive, and hands-on.

It has been a week full of learning and valuable experiences, helping the learners to develop their language, social, and cognitive skills.
