Week 2
The children have been continuing to build confidence in their second week of learning Welsh.
This Week’s Highlights
The children revisited the language patterns from their first week, using them in new activities across different learning areas. This helped them grow more confident when speaking.
They learned the names of facial features through repeated movements, songs, and games. They had lots of fun creating and drawing funny pictures by combining facial features with simple adjectives. The children also practiced language patterns to describe themselves, and the “red chair” activity gave them a chance to ask and answer questions. It was wonderful to see them communicating confidently with their peers.
In numeracy sessions, the children reviewed numbers and symbols, practicing counting in Welsh through interactive oral games.
Throughout the week, they learned the days of the week and weather in Welsh through songs and games. Later, they applied this new vocabulary in morning “quick chats” and began taking more responsibility for their own learning.
Towards the end of the week, the children enjoyed fun, creative opportunities to practice Welsh. This included making question “chatterboxes” and using chalk outside to practise naming facial features. They also had an interactive VR session in the primary/secondary transition centres, adding an exciting and engaging element to their language experiences.
Additionally, the children learned about places in Wales, labelling locations on a map and discovering the meanings behind the names of the areas where they live. This was both fun and educational, helping them become more aware of their surroundings and proud of their new community.
