Week 4
Welcome to the fourth week in our Language Centres!
This week has been full of fun activities and opportunities to develop Welsh language skills across the curriculum. The learners practised verbs, prepositions and animal vocabulary through games, songs and speaking activities such as Simon Says and Charades.
At Porthmadog Language Centre, learners had the opportunity to meet Mali the dog and use Welsh in real-life situations. Everyone had the chance to practise giving simple instructions and asking questions such as “Come here”, “Wait” and “Would you like a drink?”. The children also took turns leading Mali on her lead, helping to build confidence and develop their communication skills. During their walk, they learned new words such as mountain, lake, river, bridge and trees, using Welsh in a natural and enjoyable way.
At Tryfan and Tywyn Language Centres, learners celebrated Shwmae Su’mae Day by going around the school greeting teachers and staff in Welsh. This was a fantastic opportunity to use Welsh in real-life situations and develop confidence in speaking the language.
At Dolgellau Language Centre, learners visited the local library, where they were able to choose a Welsh book that interested them. This helped to encourage a love of reading and expand their Welsh vocabulary.
All learners visited Aberwla Farm this week, where they took part in drama, games and writing activities based on the character Wil Tomos. They had the opportunity to perform different roles, helping to develop their confidence and spoken Welsh skills. They also learned the names of farm animals and wild animals in a fun and engaging way.
It is wonderful to see the learners’ confidence continue to grow and their use of Welsh develop from week to week. We look forward to more fun, learning and success in our Language Centres.
