Week 3

Welcome to the weekly language centres blog.

Highlights of the Week

This week was full of enjoyable learning and creative activities, with the fun continuing throughout week 3. The learners learned the names of body parts through songs and outdoor chalk activities. By moving along to the rhythm, they developed their vocabulary in an engaging and enjoyable way while having fun at the same time.

The children also learned clothing vocabulary and practised language patterns in a variety of interesting contexts. The learners took part in role-play activities, practising buying a hat in a shop and using relevant language patterns in a realistic situation. Each child also planned and designed outfits for their own characters, encouraging creativity and developing their ability to follow step-by-step instructions.

The children were introduced to the imaginary town of Aberwla, where they practised their language skills through learning about two characters, Aron and Beca. They were encouraged to describe the characters' personalities and features, helping to further develop their descriptive language.

During numeracy sessions, the children played number games to practise their calculation skills in a fun and interactive way while reinforcing key mathematical vocabulary and terminology.

The children's descriptive language skills were further strengthened as they learned how to record their spoken work using an app, giving each child a voice as a character. This provided a valuable opportunity to practise communication skills and build confidence in speaking in a fun and imaginative context.

At the primary and secondary year 5-9 centres, one of the highlights of the week was using Virtual Reality (VR) technology to take a virtual tour around the supermarket and Tyddyn Swnllyd Farm, adding an exciting dimension to the learning experience.

The week was full of fun, learning and creativity, providing many opportunities for the children to develop and apply their Welsh language skills further.
