Week 1
An Exciting Start at the Language Centres
The new term has started brilliantly at the language centres, with new learners settling in quickly and growing in confidence as they begin to use Welsh. Through a variety of enjoyable activities and opportunities to work together, learners have been getting to know one another, building new friendships and developing a sense of belonging in their new environment.
During the first week, learners were introduced to the foundations of the Welsh language. They explored the Welsh alphabet, learned new vocabulary and developed their reading, speaking and writing skills through practical activities and language games. There were regular opportunities to practise greetings and answer simple questions about themselves.
Food and mealtimes were an important focus throughout the week, with learners learning new vocabulary and practising useful language patterns. Fun and hands-on activities helped learners to use Welsh confidently when communicating with others.
During creative sessions, learners learned the Welsh names for colours and used them in a variety of art and design activities. These tasks provided a valuable opportunity to combine creativity with language development.
Later in the week, learners had the opportunity to explore aspects of Welsh culture and heritage. They enjoyed listening to Welsh music and taking part in engaging activities and discussions that celebrated Welsh identity while broadening their understanding of Wales.
Here is a glimpse of some of the experiences and activities enjoyed by our learners during the first week of the term.
